See, I invented Kanye, it wasn’t any Kanyes/And now I look and look around and there’s so many Kanyes/I used to love Kanye, I used to love Kanye I even had the pink polo, I thought I was Kanye
On The Life of Pablo Kanye West responds to his detractors missing his more soulful and political activist side.
And even Big Brother Jay Z offered more validity to those cries by saying ‘We miss the old Kanye’
So what does this mean? Is there an etherial ‘old’ Kanye that was a backpacker who was a lovable producer-rapper
This thought process is dismissive forgetting all that came before this current iteration of Yeezy.
What many fans love about Mr. West is that there is no predictability when it comes to him.
With all seven albums he has changed his production style and his lyricism.
His magnum opus My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is vastly different from the classic that is his first album College Dropout
The growth in his rapping ability is seen in records with like Gorgeous compared to Get Em High.
Most point to the time when West’s mother Donda West died to when we ‘lost’ Kanye.
Those who do that are forgetting so many times he has ranted and gained criticism or praise for his actions.
His first taste of universal acclaim was during a Red Cross telethon raising money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
A deeply distraught West struggles to keep his composure as the teleprompter gives him text to read.
Instead he speaks from the hard about avoiding the television because it was too hard to look at the disaster and also the shame he felt because he spent money of frivolous things before giving money himself.
Then with Mike Myers at his side and America watching he said what many Black Americans were thinking: George Bush doesn’t care about Black people
Years late West would come to defend George W Bush while criticizing the media for taking soundbites and words out of context.
Everybody wants to use people and villainize people even if you take the concept of George Bush. There is no leader in history that has been villianized in that way
In February of last year at Yo Gotti’s album release party he premiered his new song Saint Pablo but before he did that he ranted about the media, Taylor Swift, Louis Vuitton and petitioned for TIDAL.
Do you know what Hov had to go through to make music for y’all?
Y’all have Blueprint but y’all act like TIDAL wack. That man fought to buy a streaming company
If you love me, if y’all love Hov…I need y’all to sign up for TIDAL tonight and change the paradigm
In the song he played, Saint Pablo, he talks about how he’s perceived and how he fights for the people.
Before that same year was finished his label and business partners, who have all went to bat for, stuck by and defended each other, he was now going after: Jay Z and Beyonce
West was offended that his ‘Big Brother’ didn’t come by and check on his wife Kim Kardashian after the Paris robbery. He didn’t feel a phone call was enough and even spoke on North West never meeting or playing with Blue Ivy. These revelations were earth shattering to some fans especially considering their history, most iconically Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift at the VMAs or comically joining Beck on stage in silent protest of Beyonce not winning Album of The Year.
He truly believes he’s speaking up for what is right regardless of the consequences.
He has had to fight his whole life and combat others perceptions of him. Dropping out of art school was seen as a mistake. Not being content as a producer for the hottest label in hip-hop, Rocafella was seen as ungrateful. After having to shoot his own video for Through The Wire and convince Damon Dash to allow him control over his first album he didn’t feel like he was receiving the recognition he deserved.
He has had many outbursts because of him feeling mistreated.
In 2006 after losing Best Video for Touch The Sky at the EMAs he had this to say.
If I don’t win, the award show loses credibility.
With Kanye West’s Season 4 of his adidas collection coming up he released a casting call.
Multiracial Women Only was rightfully met with tons of criticism and used as another example of how we “loss” the old Kanye.
This of course if wrong because the ‘old’ Kanye was also accused of fetishizing another race.
In the black women’s magazine Essence West speaks on video girls and “race mixing”
“If it wasn’t for race mixing there’d be no video girls. Me and most of our friends like mutts a lot. Yeah, in the hood they call ‘em mutts”.

The Breakfast Club’s Charlamagne The God called out fellow fans and detractors of Kanye West’s erratic behavior and calls of his genius
Kanye says something we don’t agree with he needs therapy. Kanye says something we agree with he’s a genius.

After being touch seeing the Alton Sterling video in addition to tweeting about him Kim Kardashian and Kanye West came to the 16th birthday party for one of the Mothers of The Movement son.
In the same month Kanye West came out in support of Donald Trump after he won the election. Stating they have been personable for a while and in his lyrics he uses Trump in a positive light.
That don’t mean that I don’t think that Black Lives Matter. That don’t mean I don’t think that I’m a believer in women’s rights. That don’t mean I don’t believe in gay marriage. That don’t mean that I don’t believe in these things because that was the guy I would’ve voted for.
The pairing of Trump and West shouldn’t be surprising in many ways. In 2013, the same year Kanye West was praised for criticizing Jimmy Kimmel and spoke on both racism and classicism in the fashion industry and America, during a freestyle with Big Boy Kanye hails Ben Carson as the next President of the United States. Ben Carson is now the secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Trump’s cabinet.
Not only that someone he champions as a mentor of his Louis Farrakhan openly petitioned for a Trump presidency as something that could lead to Blacks becoming more self sufficient. Though he supported Obama and Clinton financially in hindsight it’s not as an absurd proposition.
I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change.

Here’s to hoping that civil rights activist Jim Brown, future NFL hall of famer Ray Lewis and now Kanye West will hold Trump and his staff accountable. Chance The Rapper recently gave sentiments of investing in having the President-elect hear the issues.
Whether he actually runs for presidency in 2020 or 2024 Kanye West will always been the center of derision or praise. “Old” Kanye or not.
Instead of feigning for an amalgamation of positive experiences take the time and look at a whole person.
